The Ottawa Stingers are a wheelchair rugby club who compete at a competitive level and develop players who aim to represent our province and country in national or international events.
We are associated with Wheelchair Rugby Canada (NSO) and Ontario Para Network (PSO).
In 1980, the Ottawa Stingers became the second Ontario city to have a "Murderball" team, original name of the game, after Bill Powell got the idea of starting a team in Ottawa.
Bill Powell and Lloyd Cowin, of the Royal Ottawa Regional Rehab Centre, decided to get people out and form a team to play this new found game for quadriplegics.
Wheelchair Rugby is a physical game played by two teams that contest for possession of the ball in order to score the most points. Players compete in sport-specific manual wheelchairs within the official rules of the game, and according to the spirit of fair play.
To be eligible to play, individuals must have a disability that affects at least three limbs.
